Dear addon developers !
As you know XBMC has moved translations to a great web based translation
system called Transifex.
More info on that here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=141158
We would like to help the addon developement with providing and maintaining
the translation infrastructure to YOUR addons and skins as well.
This means that you won't have to deal with pulling translations to your
upstream addon repository one-by-one, monitoring the mailing list anymore.
All you have to do is provide some data of your upstream repository (where
the fresh English language file resides) and you can pull in fresh
translations from time to time (or before bumping a release) from XBMC's
official translations github repositories:
https://github.com/xbmc/translations/tree/master/translations/xbmc-addons-frodo/merged-langfiles
https://github.com/xbmc/translations/tree/master/translations/xbmc-skins-frodo/merged-langfiles<https://github.com/xbmc/translations/tree/master/translations/xbmc-addons-frodo/merged-langfiles>
This repository is always kept in sync with the tranlsation work going on
transifex.net. Just like we have already working great with the internal
addons:
https://github.com/xbmc/translations/tree/master/translations/xbmc-main-frodo/merged-langfiles/addons
On Transifex we already have a great community of translators signed up and
working together on xbmc main project. They will be able to use the
translation memory created with the core language file and the internal
addons.
So how can you participate?
What I need for getting things working is an email for start (and when data
changes) on THIS mailing list in the following form:
In subject:
[lang][addon data] my cool addon
In the body of the email:
*addon - my.cool.addon
*httpurl - http://some.where/master/
*xbmc version - (only Frodo is supported at the moment)
*upstream langs - languages that might be updated upstream, along with the
English file
Where:
- httpurl is the URL of which can be reached via http and contains the
addon.xml file. For example let's look at an internal addon skin.confluence
in xbmc master:
The URL what is needed in this case is:
https://raw.github.com/xbmc/xbmc/master/addons/visualization.milkdrop/<https://raw.github.com/xbmc/xbmc/master/addons/visualization.milkdrop/addon.xml>
What has to work with the URL is if I add
"resources/language/English/strings.xml" we should be able to get a raw
format of the xml file.
https://raw.github.com/xbmc/xbmc/master/addons/visualization.milkdrop/resources/language/English/strings.po
A few things to note:
- The old xml file format language files will be converted to a gettext PO
file format. Just pull in these files and you can delete the xml ones right
after.
- The English po file MUST always be updated with any new strings. Any ID
that is not in the English file will be DELETED from the other language
files.
- If you want our work to be a little easier, use Github for your project.
It has a great API which our sync utility can use.
Important: Please with any questions write to [email protected] instead of
this mailing list. This list should only receive the email described above.
Or use the translation forum if the subject is of public interest.

Thanks, waiting for your forms,
cheers,
