The point is we want to get rid of the problems we had with version numbers
which were non standard across the board. At some point we need to draw a
line and make it the same.
So that why we now want x.y.z instead of x.y which makes it the same for
everything.

The change needs to happen at some point. If we still allow the old style
we keep getting a mess. Also if we change repo layout in the future there
won't be any issues.
