I don't think winboard/xboard can do that. I highly recommend icsdrone
instead if you want to daemonize.

To build a windows binary, he'll need the cygwin tools. If the engine
is UCI, he'll also need polyglot. It's on my agenda to put together a
HOWTO for running in this manner complete with the required windows
binaries. I just haven't gotten to it yet.
b) do we have documentation about the book-format for engines... never use
engines, so I'm a bit clueless here ;)
