Hello we got the following bug report... anyone running xboard on ubuntu 11.04 and can confirm this?
Arun -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [Bug-XBoard] [bug #34202] xboard has a 20-second startup delay running with Ubuntu 11.04 Date: Sun, 04 Sep 2011 03:21:12 +0000 URL: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?34202> Summary: xboard has a 20-second startup delay running with Ubuntu 11.04 Project: XBoard Submitted by: rkircher Submitted on: Sun 04 Sep 2011 03:21:11 AM GMT Category: None Severity: 3 - Normal Item Group: None Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any _______________________________________________________ Details: This is the same problem that has been reported on the web many times with no solution posted. For example, it is described very well at: http://old.nabble.com/Extremely-slow-startup-td29341827.html My startup time is 40-seconds, and is even slower. It takes 20-seconds for the xboard graphics to be shown and then another 20-seconds for the menus to be added and become functional. I think the problem is strongly related to Ubuntu 11.04 because I have taken early versions (4.2.x) from an OpenSUSE 11.0 installation and used it to replace the xboard executable in version 4.5.x in Ubuntu 11.04 and it changes from a startup time of about 1/2-second in openSUSE 11.0 to 40-seconds running under Ubuntu 11.04. The delay may be in the video because I can't run Unity in Ubuntu 11.04 and use the older Gnome 2.0 with no special effects. I think Unity sucks, but for this problem I loaded Unity 2D and it had no effect on the xboard startup delay. Otherwise the bug is the same as posted elsewhere on the web.
