I think that Greg has it right. Since the list is new, let's
wait and see what it becomes (if anything). What you can expect
from the administrator of this is the following:
1. Spammer's will get kicked off the list immediately. If this
becomes a problem, the subscription procedure might change as
well.
2. Ads posted to the list will be allowed provided they offer
something of value to cross country skier's in the area. I'm
open to clear rules on this but for now I'll just make them up as
we go along.
3. Any and all topics relating to Nordic skiing will be allowed
regardless of origin or relevance to local skiers.
4. Off topic posts will be handled exclusively by the list
administrator. Typically, I will ask the violator to restrain
themselves in a private email message. If the problem continues,
the violator will be removed from the list. The violator may be
allowed to rejoin the list at a later time. It extreme cases,
the violator will be banned forever.
fyi: I've administered several lists for several years. I've
never removed anyone for off topic posts. What I have found is
that being clear that this is the sole discretion of the list
administrator, helps to establish order when things get out of
hand. I firmly believe that the best list administrator is the
one that is there only when you need her.
Cheers,
Joe
