CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAIL REPORT
December 15, 2000
Current weather: About 1" of new snow on Thursday. Moderate temps through
weekend.
Forecast: Snow, snow, snow - expected for Saturday/Sunday.
ABR TRAILS - Ironwood, MI
12/13 - 2 inches of snow in the last week. 5 -1/2
feet of snow for the
season. Base is 9-10 inches. Surface conditions are firm, packed powdery
snow, and no ice. A complete grooming was done 12/12 including resetting all
tracks.
AFTERHOURS CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAIL - Brule, WI
The Afterhours Ski Trail, with the exception of the "alternate trail"
segment was groomed on Thursday, 12/7. The trail may be tracked on Friday if
enough additional snow is received overnight. Conditions are pretty good.
Skiers are advised to wear blaze orange as the trail is on state forest land
where there may be hunting. 2 new bridges and other work by the Brule Valley
Ski Club and state forest staff have widened the trail tread in several
locations and smoothed it out considerably."Alternate trail" will be groomed
after this weekend..
AMERICAN BIRKEBEINER TRAIL - Cable/Seeley/Hayward, WI
The trail was rolled mid week. 1-2" new snow on top of packed surface.
Conditions: Good. No tracks at North End. No report elsewhere.
ASHLAND SKI TRAIL - Ashland, WI - Only about 4" total snow. Some skied in
tracks, no grooming.
BEAVER BROOK SKI TRAIL - Spooner, WI
Groomed 12/1 for classical and skating. Conditions: Fair.
BLUE HILLS TRAIL - Bruce, WI
1 to 2 inches of powder snow Thur. night. Good to very good
conditions
today with temperatures in the teens and skate-skiing on 2 inches
of
fresh powder over a packed powder base. In most areas, the base is very
adequate and pole plants are solid; in some areas, the surface is a bit
uneven since it has been rolled, not scraped. Occasional rocks may still be
present -- rock skis may still be a good idea. Grooming of the entire
EastSideTrail & WestSideTrail was performed Thursday, December 7 using a
snowmobile and trail roller. A striding lane will be set when
more snow
arrives
DRUMMOND SKI TRAIL - Drummond, WI
All trails have been compacted to a six inch minimum base, but no tracks
set. Rock skis recommended.
FISH HATCHERY PARK - Hayward, WI
Groomed 12/7 with a shallow track set.
FLAMBEAU HILLS SKI TRAILS - Price County, WI
12/13 - Trails are packed, no tracks. Conditions: Poor to Fair.
HAYWARD HOSPITAL SKI TRAILS - Hayward, WI
Groomed on 12/4. Scheduled to be groomed again on 12/11.
HAYWARD GOLF COURSE - Hayward, WI
Scheduled to be groomed again on 12/11.
HOLY CROSS SKI TRAILS - Phillips, WI
Groomed and tracked Saturday, 12/9. Condiditions: Fair with a few exposed
rocks.
LADYSMITH HIGH SCHOOL LIGHTED XC TRAIL - Ladysmith, WI
The Trail was groomed the morning of December 10th. For the first
time this
season, a drag was used rather than a roller. This helped produce some
surface leveling, but the trail surface is still uneven paralleling Rocky
Ridge Rd. A shallow diagonal track was set by
machine. Conditions are
good/very good for skating and fair/good for
classical skiing. The lights
are on from dusk until 10:00 p.m.
LOG JAM TRAIL - Phillips, WI
Groomed on Sunday, 12/9. No set tracks yet. Conditions: Good.
LUTHER HILLS - Minong, WI
Trails hve been rolled, but insufficient snow to set track. Conditions: Fair
MECCA TRAILS - Mercer, WI
Groomed 12/12. 20km groomed with 10km tracked. Firm 3-4 " base
with good
track set in most woods trails - rocky eskers not tracked. Conditions:
Good.
MONTREAL TRAIL - Montreal, WI
Another 5-6" of new snow. Tracks expected to be set mid-week at which time
conditions should be Very Good.
MT. ASHWABAY SKI TRAILS - Bayfield, WI
Trails have been rolled and are open, but no tracks have been set.
MT. VALHALLA VALKYRIE AND TEUTON SKI TRAILS - Washburn, WI
Rolled and packed on 12/ 8. Additional 3" inches of packed powder on top.
MUKWONAGO SKI TRAIL - Hayward, WI
Packed, groomed for skating and track set - 12/7/00. Conditions: Fair
NAMEKAGON TRAIL - Namekagon, WI
Some trail clearing planned for 12/9/00
Conditions: Poor, needs about another week before it will be ready to go.
NEWMAN SPRINGS SKI TRAIL - Price County, WI
12/13 - Trails will be packed Fri. or Sat. Conditions: Poor to Fair.
NORDIC WOODS SKI TRAIL- Stone Lake, WI
Trails have been groomed, but low snow base. Conditions: Fair.
NORTH END TRAILS - Cable, WI
3.5km loop packed and tracked on 12/12/. Conditions: Good. 6 km loop packed
on 12/12 - no tracks. Conditions: Fair. 10km loop not open.
OXBO SKI TRAIL - Price County, WI
12/13 - Trails are packed. No tracks. Conditions: Poor to Fair.
PALMQUIST'S THE FARM - Brantwood, WI
Will open on Monday. Conditions: Good.
PENOKEE MOUNTAIN TRAIL - Mellen, WI
Finishing up trail brushing and clearing 12/8/00
Conditions: Poor. Surprisingly not much snow here yet.
RED BARN TRAIL - Shell Lake, WI
Ungroomed. May be skied in.
ROCK LAKE TRAIL - Cable, WI
Insufficient snow to groom or set track
SAWYER BROOK TRAIL - Shell Lake, WI
Ungroomed. May be skied in.
SEELEY SKI TRAIL - Seeley, WI
Conditions: Fair to Good.
SOLBERG LAKE TRAIL - Phillips, WI
Groomed only on Saturday, 12/9. 3" of fresh snow on Sunday.
SPOONER CITY TRAIL - Spooner, WI
Groomed 11/29 for skating and classical. Conditions: Fair to Good.
TELEMARK SKI TRAILS - Cable, WI
There is a 3-4 inch packed base. Trails are scheduled to be packed on
Thursday and track set on Friday. Conditions: Good.
TIMBERLAND HILLS SKI TRAILS - Cumberland, WI
All trails have been groomed and are in fair condition
TIMM'S HILL/HIGHPOINT SKI TRAILS - Ogema, WI
12/13 - Groomed and Tracked. Conditions: Fair.
TOMAHAWK LAKE SKI TRAIL - Barnes, WI
Groomed Tuesday, Dec. 12. Base barely adequate but probably 90+% of the
trail has no exposed debris. Track in fair condition.
TOTOGATIC TRAIL - Minong, WI
Groomed Thurs. noon. All loops are in good condition with occasional dirty
snow. The D loop has some grass showing in the tracks in the 0.5 km swamp
section.
TREGO LAKE SKI TOURING TRAIL - Trego, WI
Tracks skied in. Conditions: Fair to Good.
ULLER TRAIL - Iron Belt/Montreal, WI
Another 5-6" of new snow. Tracks expected to be set mid-week at which time
conditions should be Very Good.
VEIKKO SKI TRAIL Marengo, WI
Back country trail. Ungroomed.
WEST TORCH TRAIL - Clam Lake, WI
Working on brush clearing 12/8/00. Conditions: Poor
WINTERGREEN SKI TRAILS - Fifield, WI
12/13 - Trails are packed. No tracks. Conditions: Poor to Fair.
WOLVERINE NORDIC - Ironwood, MI
The area has recieved an additional 14" of snow over last weekend. 17km
groomed for skating and striding. Seasons snow to date totals 65". Our
new
warming shelter is open from 8-8 daily.
