One kind Madnordski reader submitted a story about Blue Mound
State Park with this P.S.:

This was my response.

For skating in the area, you might want to try Cam Rock county
park. Also Lake Farm county park. All of the county parks try
to groom for both. This policy doesn't really work at Indian
Lake or Stewart Park. Also Governor Nelson State park has wide
trails in the open areas.

I actually think that Cam Rock is one of the more beatiful parks
in Dane County. It has a nice variety of views. Be sure the ice
is solid before skiing across the river.

Come to think of it, Lake Kegonsa State park has a real nice
skating area as well. You have a bit of snow mobile noise to
tollerate there, however. Check out:

Of course I'm not a skater so my impression of exactly how
enjoyable these places are to skaters is speculation. You might
take issue with the statement, "[a]ll county parks try to groom
for both," however, that is the policy in Dane County. I
understand that it doesn't always seem that way. It's been my
impression that the trails are wider at Cam Rock and Lake Farm
than most other county parks. I could have included Token Creek
but I just can't stand that place. The noise of the planes and
trucks just gets me down.

Cheers,

Joe
