CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAIL REPORT
February 2, 2001
ABR TRAILS Ironwood, MI
All trails regroomed on2/1 after 2 inches new snow. Conditions: Excellent!
AFTERHOURS SKI TRAIL - Brule River State Forest Brule, WI To be groomed on 2/2. Conditions: Should be excellent.
AMERICAN BIRKEBEINER TRAIL Cable/Seeley/Hayward, WI The entire Birkie trail was groomed and tracked on Feb. 1 after 1-2 inches of new snow Due to ice and snow cover on the trees, the trail is only 12 feet wide in some areas north of "OO". Skiing on classical tracks in these areas may be difficult. There is light snow in the forecast for the next day or two.
The American Birkebeiner Trail will be groomed with every three inches of fresh snowfall. The trail will also be groomed every Thursday for weekend skiing. It should be noted that anticipated snowfall could change this grooming schedule based on the Trail Supervisor's discretion.
ASHLAND SKI TRAIL Ashland, WI
BALSAM BRANCH CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAILS Amery, WI
Groomed twice a week or after new snow.
BEAVER BROOK SKI TRAIL Spooner, WI
Last groomed on 1/15.
Note: Due to erosion from logging, this ski area will have minimum grooming for classic skiing. Ski jouring, backcountry skiing and snowshoeing are permited, but please respect the tracks.
BLUE HILLS TRAIL Bruce, WI
The entire trail system was groomed Friday, January 26 for both skatingand striding. The skating lane was touched-up Saturday morning, January 27 -- and most of the EastSideTrail skating lane was touched-up again Wednesday, January 31. Heavy, wet snows on Monday/Tuesday did not adversely affect the trail -- very good skating and striding conditions were present today (Thursday, February 1) under sunny skies with temperatures in the single digits.

Groomed on the evening of 1/26. Conditions: Very Good.
COPPER FALLS STATE PARK Mellen, WI
Groomed on 2/1. Some trails closed due to fallen trees from windstorms earlier this year. Conditions: Good to Excellent .
DOUGLAS COUNTY SKI TRAIL Solon Springs, WI Groomed on 1/31. Conditions: Good.
DRUMMOND SKI TRAILS Drummond, WI
Groomed and tracked on 2/1. Heavy wet snow, followed by freezing and additional light snow have created many low hanging branches. Boulevard tracked only as far as the Race Track. North Country Return is packed, but not tracked. Except for the obstructions, conditions: Excellent.
FISH HATCHERY PARK Hayward, WI
Groomed on 1/25. Conditions: Very Good.
FLAMBEAU HILLS SKI TRAILS Phillips, WI
Groomed and tracked on 1/27 and scheduled to be groomed again on 2/2. Conditions: Good . A candlelight ski is being held at the Flambeau Hills Ski Area, Phillips, from 6-9 pm on Saturday, February 3.
HAYWARD HOSPITAL SKI TRAILS Hayward, WI
Groomed on 1/25. Conditions: Very Good.

To be groomed on 1/26. Conditions: Very Good.
HOLY CROSS SKI TRAILS Phillips, WI
Groomed on 1/19 . Conditions: Fair. Scheduled to be groomed on 2/2 at which time conditions should be Excellent.
INTERSTATE PARK TRAILS St. Croix Falls, WI
To be groomed 2/2 but more snow is needed. Conditions: Fair - Poor. Should be somewhat icy.
LADYSMITH HIGH SCHOOL LIGHTED XC TRAIL
Ladysmith, WI
Ladysmith has had rain and thaw, followed by refreezing and a dusting of snow. The skate lane at the LHS Trail was scarified early in the evening on January 31. This resulted in excellent skating conditions-fast but controlable. The diagonal track was not reset and is icy.
The lights are on from dusk until 10:00 p.m.

About 15 km trails open (Sugarbush and Dee Path) after heavy snow and ice. Conditions: Good.
MUKWONAGO SKI TRAIL Groomed on 2/1. Conditions: Skating - Excellent; Classical - Fair.
NAMEKAGON SKI TRAIL Namakagon, WI
To be groomed and tracked 2/2. Conditions: Should be Excellent.

A shuttle service is available leaving Telemark at 11:00am. on Saturday morning, and arriving at 00 at 11:30. The driver waits until 11:45 before heading back up to Telemark.

All trails were groomed on 2/1. Trails in good condition.
TIMM'S HILL/HIGHPOINT SKI TRAILS Ogema, WI
Groomed and tracked on Jan. 26 and scheduled to be groomed again on 21. Conditions: Excellent.
TOMAHAWK LAKE SKI TRAIL Barnes, WIGroomed and tracked late on Jan. 30. Conditions: Good.
TOTOGATIC TRAIL Minong, WI
The Totagatic trail was groomed on Thurs., Feb 1 over crusted conditions. Trails are in good shape. The trail will be re-groomed Sat., Feb 3 if we get enough snow.
