[XC] Dumb question Part II

Any suggestions for skate ski waxing? I am very new to the wax game and rather 
than stress over waxing, I just went with my skis with swix blue. My skis felt 
sluggish until the sleet iced things up.

Given yesterday's conditions after doing the Birkie course, what would people 
have done had they known? I was in the last wave (my first), is snow condition 
a strong reason for qualifying for a higher wave (would that have helped)?
