Those of you at tonight's MadNorSki meeting heard about the letter campaign
to help Karl Heil get a new snowmobile to aid in his grooming efforts. I,
for one, will be writing a letter, because I went to ski at Blue Mounds
yesterday morning and was astounded at how great the trails still were. The
trails were pristine -- not a leaf or a twig to be seen. Amazing.

A friend and I decided to go for a Sunday morning ski -- he skated, while I
did a combination of classical and what I call "skating". With the inch or
so of new snow that had fallen Saturday night, I actually had good grip with
the kick wax which remained on my wife's skis that she used for the Korte (I
decided to use her shorter skis for my "skating" experimentation).

Though there were a couple of other cars in the parking lot, we saw nary a
soul on the trails. It was sunny and 25 F -- Spring skiing just doesn't get
much better. And did I mention that the trails were perfectly groomed?

Praise Be To Karl...
