TELEMARK SNOW REPORT Wednesday, March 21, 2001 Telemark Resort, Cable Wisconsin, 877/798-4718, www.telemarkresort.com IN A NUTSHELL: XC trails open: 5 Total kilometers: 25 New snow: 0" Packed base: 13" - 16" Trackset: 25 K Skate groomed: 25K Tubing slope: open Snowboarding slope: open, 20"-25" base Trail surface conditions: Solid in the morning, firm to soft in the afternoon. Weekend forecast: Low Friday night near 20, high Saturday low 30s. Low Saturday night in the upper-20s, high Sunday in the mid-30s. Hours: Cross country skiing & snowshoeing, 3 to 5 pm Friday, 9 am to 5 pm Saturday & Sunday. Tubing & snowboarding, 3 to 10 pm Friday, 9 am to 5 pm Saturday & Sunday. IN DETAIL: Telemark has 25 K of the 60 K trail system open at present. Five trails are open including the 2, 4, 5 & 7 K Birkebeiner loops, 5 K Sven Wiik World Cup Trail and 10 K Caldwell World Cup Trail, 10 K of Kortelopet Trail ( from the Tony Wise Trail into the lodge), 9 K Tony Wise Trail, 6 K of the John Bauer Trail (same as the Kortelopet), Other trails still have good cover and offer good crust skiing in the morning and a soft surface with a firm base in the afternoons. No new snow has fallen since last Friday. All goomed trails are in good condition and have a single, double or triple set track. Trails have a 13 - 16 inch packed base. Skating/classic trails are being groomed with our LMC groomer and tiller as well as our Tidd-Tech. We expect to be open for XC skiing on weekends through the end of March. The Birkebeiner Race Trail was rolled and tracked March 12 by the American Birkebeiner Foundation from the Fish Hatchery Park near Hayward to McNaught Road near Telemark. Tracks for classical skiing were set. Skiers are welcome to ski to or from the Birkie Trail and Telemark Lodge without buying a trail pass and are invited to purchase a pass to ski the other outstanding trails. Tickets can be purchased at the Hytte (Hut) Rossignol Demo Center near the lodge.
