CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAIL REPORT
TRAIL CONDITIONS
Updated: January 4, 2002
GENERAL CONDITIONS: Temperatures high near 20F. Warming with chances of snow on Friday.
There is adequate to very good snow cover across much of the north, from approximately Hayward to Lake Superior. Bases vary from 2 to 6 inches or more. Not a lot of recent snowfall. Surfaces are generally hard packed. It has been a challenge to set deep tracks. Places of note with fair to good tracks include: Mt. Ashwaybay, Bayfield (good), ARB & Wolverine, Ironwood, MI (excellent), Drummond Trails (fair to good), Telemark (fair to good), Penokee, Mellen (fair).
ABR TRAILS

6 to 10 inch solid base. Good tarcks and firm skating lane. Conditions: It doesn't get any better than this.
AFTERHOURS CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAIL
Brule, WI
We continue to groom and the trail is shaping up nicely, though we still don't have enough base to set track. There is a 1-4 inch base and conditions are "fair" or better. Lake effect snow is forecast through the weekend and if we get enough we'll set tracks.
AMERICAN BIRKEBEINER TRAIL
Cable/Seeley/Hayward,WI, The trail was rolled from "OO" south to Hayward. On Friday the trail will be rolled from "OO" north to the Powerline. There is not enough snow at this time to set a track. Conditions: Fair+/Good skiing with rock skis.

1/2 - F air to very good conditions New Year's Day skating on packed powder with temperatures near 20 degrees F. The base is limited, however in many areas offers enough cover to provide excellent skiing. All of the WestSideTrail and a significant portion of the EastSideTrail were rolled New Year's Day. Remaining areas were packed by snowmobile December 28. Because of low snow conditions, use caution on downhills.

TELEMARK SKI TRAILS

1/2 -Approximately 48 KM of the Telemark/North End/Kortelopet 65 KM trail system
have been groomed for skating. This includes the Birkebeiner Loops, Tony Wise Trail, John Bauer Trail (to Kortelopet split), Kortelopet Trail (rolled from start to 9 KM), North End Trail, Bill Koch Trail on the south side of Mt. Telemark, Sven Wiik and Caldwell World Cup trails. Classical tracks have been set on the Birkie Loops and the Kortelopet Trail from 14 KM to 23 KM. Tracks are a thin in spots but very good in many sections. The trail snow base is thin. The trails are in fair to good condition and skiable throughout.

TOMAHAWK LAKE SKI TRAIL
Barnes, WI
Received 8" of fluffy snow night of 12/26. Packed on 12/27. Tracked 12/28 a.m.. Good track set on majority of trail. Limited base where there is a conifer over story. Trail is mostly sodded now so there is little chance of finding a rock, however the trail crosses town roads in several places which are gravel and will require removal of skis.
