Ok, here's my theory (verified by volunteers in Birkie office).

Birkie officials sitting around post-snowstorm trying to decide where to end Birkie. First, they decide on Rosie's Field because the hilltops above Duffy's are often blown clear (you all saw the most grass and mud there). So they write up a news release saying "end at Rosies - 45 km". Then someone checks Duffy's and they change the finish to that point putting into motion all the moving of finish line houses (you DID notice they actually moved 2 HOUSES as well as all fencing, tents, timing mats, etc., etc to the finish area). "Oh,....and ahhhh [almost an afterthought], we gotta change the press release to read Duffys. Somebody do that will ya?"

And viola, ending destination changed from Rosies to Duffy's, but distance change got overlooked. After all they had just a couple of other things to worry about !!!!

Give 'em a break, they are mostly volunteers!
