We have snow!!! I guess the skiing season starts in March this
year.

Nearly every season, it seems, we have some bit of controversy
over the policy of grooming at Blue Mound State Park. There
seems to be widespread agreement that Karl does a wonderful job
of grooming. I would go further and say that he also does a
wonderful job of deciding when and how to lay a track.

In a more typical winter the MadNorSki web site has gotten
complaints from classical skiers who visit the park to find a
beautiful skating area but no tracks. Then not long afterward we
get complaints from skaters about the track set where just last
week was a skating area. This is because Karl makes the most of
what the snow fall allows. As a result, Blue Mound State Park is
the most reliable place of skiing in the area. When there's
enough snow to set a track, it's not just a place to classic ski,
it's the best classical skiing in the area. The same can be said
about the skating when conditions aren't right for track.

So here we are in March and finally there's a track a Blue
Mound. Not long ago I was out there teaching myself how to
skate. Tomorrow I'll go out there to enjoy classical skiing in
decent track for the first time this season.

If you're looking for a groomed place to skate in the area on
Sunday, look no further than Elver and Odana. This is because
Dane County decided not to groom their sites until Monday at the
earliest.
