Outdoor Life Network Considers Dropping Ski Coverage

According to several industry reports over the past month, Canadian-based cable/satellite Outdoor Life Network is reportedly considering dropping ski coverage as early as the 2002/2003 season. For the past several years, Outdoor Life (OLN) has been the exclusive home of Nordic ski coverage on the World Cup and major elite circuit. With race footage provided by World Cup organizers, OLN has offered up to a dozen taped Nordic competitions each season from throughout the World Cup calendar. Virtually no other Nordic coverage has reached U.S. households save for sporadic major network Olympic preview shows...with that coverage primarily focused on Nordic Combined and Jumping.

Ski industry sources claim that the OLN decision is being based primarily on viewer feedback coming from a web-based polling system on the OLN website. Those same sources are now calling for skiing advocates to raise the profile of ski sport in the eyes of OLN executives. They are pointing to a new show that is about to start on OLN called Adventure Center which is being designed as the "Sports Center" of outdoor adventure sports.

By going to the OLN website www.olntv.com, in the lower left margin you will find a small link labeled "Feedback". This link allows you to post a simple note to OLN in which you can voice your support for continued coverage of skiing on the network.
