This just in from John Ericsson of bike racing fame:

The status is this...we are severely lacking snow. So much so that we will
mostly likely hold to the same course as last year making our long race a
42K one. We will again start on the basin and the 1/2 marathon will remain
unchanged. (If we get 1/2 foot of snow we'll have the full race).

We have a race committee meeting today (1/16/03) at 4 pm and at that time
final determinations will be made. By then, all of the course workers will
have been on the trail and can give us a better idea of what we are
facing. We sure could use some snow!

I hate to even give you the forecast because as good as it sounds, I just
don't believe it. The weather maps have shown snow for us for the past 11
days and we haven't gotten any (an inch or two each night). It keeps going
to the East and North of Marquette County. Munising (44 miles to the East)
has been buried in snow the past week or so. They are predicting 6-8
inches of snow for us tonight and if we get it, we'll have a full race.

Snow on the ground...depends where you're looking. We were blessed with a
lot of snow in November that the groomers packed well, so there's a base on
the Noque trail and the ski trails at Blueberry Ridge.

Keep asking! I'll keep updating.
