Title: DINNER

FEBRUARY 15, Saturday

VALENTINE GALA TO SAVE WINTER PARK

A night out with your valentine could help to insure that Minocqua Winter Park will open for skiers next year. What better way to spend the Saturday of Valentines Day weekend that having a fabulous dinner and dancing to a great band like Brass works.

Minocqua Winter Park is owned by the Town of Minocqua and is operated by a non-profit foundation, The Lakeland Ski Touring Foundation. Revenues are primarily generated through user fees, ski passes. Minocqua Winter Park has become recognized as one of the top cross country ski areas in the United States and in a good snow year brings 17,000 skiers to the area.

Minocqua Winter Park has worked to remain open in these low snow year, but at a cost to the ski area, losing money each year. Now this year with each passing day of no skiable snow Minocqua Winter Park is at a critical point financially. Many of the costs of the ski area such as start up costs, heat, telephone, and insurance are generated regardless of the snow conditions. Without the only source of revenue, trail passes the funds to meet these costs is not generated.

Will history repeat itself? In approximately 1954 a group of people in Minocqua put together the Squirrel Hill Corporation to created a downhill ski area. This was also a thriving asset to the community until the late 1960s, early 1970s when there were several years in a row of low snow. The Squirrel Hill Corporation went under and the facility sat vacant for 8 years. The building was heavily vandalized and most of the tows were destroyed. Can we keep Minocqua Winter Park from the same fate?

The Lakeland Ski Touring Foundation is dedicated to keeping the facility viable and is working a number of different avenues to raise money to keep the facility going. One of these events is the Valentines Gala Event.

The Valentines Gala Event will be Saturday February 15th at Solems Supper Club from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Cocktails are from 6:00 6:30 and it will be a cash bar. Dinner is a 5-course meal of:

Crab Stuffed Mushrooms,
Boston Bibb Salad with Herbed Oil and Vinegar,
Lemon Sherbet,
Flounder Florentine with Wild Rice
Fresh Fruit topped Individual Cheesecakes

Also includes two different wines to match the appetizer and main entree, rolls & coffee. After dinner Brass Works will provide music. Brass Works is an amazing ensemble whose repertoire is inspired by many musical giants including: Glen Miller, Louis Jordan & his Tymphany Five, Etta James, Billy Holiday, Chicago, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Cole Porter, Louis Armstrong, Fats Walker, Ella Fitzgerald and many more.

This will be a great evening of fun and entertainment. The cost is $50 per person and must be R.S.V.P prior to the evening.
