Al Kaltofen of the Wheaton Park District was able to get out with our new
roller today (Wednesday) and he did a great job of setting up the course. If
anything, this course is a bit long, but it's fun to ski. It's not Soldier
Hollow, but it ain't bad. Al made it 20-30 feet wide, allowing for easy
passing, so you shouldn't get backed up much during the race.

I skied the course tonight and the snow was fast. The skating lane should
firm up a bit tonight and with some shoveling here and there, should hold up.
On the down side, we are working with a 3-4 inch base, and at this point,
can't machine groom a diagonal track. There will be a track skied in. With
more snow predicted for Friday, Al might be able to set a track once the base
is a bit deeper. Overall, I found conditions to be much better than I
thought they would be.

So the race is definitely ON. It might be closer to a 13K than an 11K, but
with snow this fast, it shouldn't be a problem. I feel you'll be able to use
your top racing skis, but to be safe and smart, I recommend you bring a set
of second-level skis or rock skis just in case. We will do the best we can
for striders. It is possible that it will be a klister day for anyone
considering it.

Things could change because of the weather. We are getting 1-2 inches
Thursday night, followed by rain. We'll keep you posted. Joe Gollinger and
I will be out at Arrowhead Thursday and Friday filling in thin spots.
