I skied the Keskinada last weekend and temp at race time was -23C. I carried my own gatorade but it froze solid from the top down. The smart skiers had their bottles upside down so the part that stayed liquid was at least accessible. In those temps, frostbite was a bigger hazzard than dehydration. Almost everybody had at least some white spots on the skin. Bring mole skin and a balacava and bring an extra neck gaitor or something for when your balacava freezes and a little duct tape for when all else fails.
I tried both a face mask and a balaclava but I found that my glasses fog up immediately with either. I now use either a protective cream like Dermatone or just plain old Vaseline. I think there are also some creams on the market specifically for cold weather. If it's real cold I just slather Dermatone or Vaseline all over my face and it seems to work just as well as a face covering. You may not look as nice but that never stops me ;-) If it's not really cold, then I just put it on my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose.
