Lately a number of people have been surprised by rejected posts to the list. Many of these have been from University accounts. Please keep in mind that the list management software will block all messages from email addresses that are not subscribed. This is good because this list gets bombarded by unwanted and sometimes offensive solicitations. You never see these solicitations because like all blocked messages they get queued for my approval.
I reject almost everything but without apparent reason approve messages on occasion. In order to be approved, a blocked messages (i.e. a message from an email address that is not subscribed) must meet several criteria.
1. It must be in a queued batch of two or less. Lets face it, no one wants to sort through messages on how to enlarge various parts of the human body. Or at least no one I know will admit to it.
2. It must be blocked for a reason that is not likely to reoccur. For example, a one-time post of information relevant to the list.
Rule #2 means that nearly all messages from members that happen to post from a changed or different email address get rejected. That seems like a pain but in the long run it's best for everyone. If I approve these, rule #1 will result in me approving only some of the posted messages. This would lead one to think the whole service is as flaky as I am. It is generally best, albeit frustrating at times, to reject the message so that the poster can take the appropriate action.
You might be interested to know that you can subscribe multiple email addresses and receive the email addresses to just one of them. In order to turn off getting email to a subscribed address you will need to set an option on that subscription. What you need to know to do that is on this handy web page:
<http://www.madnorski.org/discussion.html>
So if your email address has changed in any way, (e.g. [EMAIL PROTECTED] has changed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or something similar), you should consider unsubscribing the old address and subscribing the new one instead. Otherwise you run the risk of having your rare but urgent post rejected.
Now go back to thinking about snow...
Cheers,
Joe
