You need an HMC for now. xCAT doesn't yet support SDMC, although it is in
our plans for next year.

Subject: [xcat-user] Using xCAT for hardware management with low end
            POWER7 servers

Hi,

We currently use xCAT to manage some LPARs on some IBM POWER6 servers and
we are planning to move some of these to POWER7 boxes. What do we need to
get decent xCAT hardware management functionality on low end POWER7
servers ? Do we need an HMC or do we need the newer SDMC that seems to be
replacing HMCs ?
