Did you install php5-openssl, apache2, and apache2-mod_php5? Below are
the instructions I use to install and configure SSL:

Subject: [xcat-user] Web interface SSL error
Hello,
Here is my problem, i have successfully installed xCAT v.2.6.11 on a SLES
11 runned on a virtual machine on VmWare Workstation and the web interface
packages of the most recent snapshot. I followed precisely the web
interface tutorial, i activated the ssl on the web server, unfortunately
xCAT is writting this error on the top of the web page :
Warning: stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to ssl://localhost:3001
(Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it
when you configured PHP?) in /opt/xcat/ui/lib/functions.php on line 87
xCAT submit request socket error: -448835632 - Unable to find the socket
transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP?
Notice: ob_end_flush(): failed to delete and flush buffer. No buffer to
delete or flush. in /opt/xcat/ui/lib/functions.php on line 152
(Error) xCAT response ended prematurely
The commands a2enmod ssl and a2enflag SSL confirm SSL is installed.
