We have also begun to work on integrating System Imager and xCAT. The main advantage this will have over andrew's solution is the ability to push just delta changes from the golden node to the rest of the nodes. But this is going to take us a while, so andrew's solution is the right one to go with for now.

An earlier version of the scripts (our own initrd/modifications to rc.statelite) were put in a feature request here: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3158216&group_id=208749&atid=1006948 That might help you get started.. From: Eric Chennells [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, June 20, 2012 12:37 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [xcat-user] Diskful mode Hello, We are currently testing out a xcat-statelite node image for our cluster, and are happy with it, but we are running into the problem that our NFS server can't handle the amount of traffic we are sending it. The type of jobs we run create a lot of I/O reading libraries. We are starting to consider the idea of just putting hard drives in the nodes, and I am a bit confused about the functionality that xCAT provides for "diskful" installs. Is it basically limited to pxe/kickstart installations of nodes? Is there no way to deploy a "master" image to each node? Essentially what I am imaging is being able to manage the node image on the xCAT management server, the way it is done with statelite installs, but instead of using NFS/RAM it would just install it to the local drive?
