Awesome – got the rcons working with the bios/FI HW info now, thanks much!
To answer your second questions, xcatconfig -v Version 2.6.11 (svn r11798, built Thu Mar 8 16:09:52 EST 2012) nodels SERVER1 noderes.netboot SERVER1: pxe From: Jarrod B Johnson [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2013 11:51 AM To: xCAT Users Mailing list Subject: Re: [xcat-user] sda boot fail & rcons not displaying hardware / bios F1 options Ok, then we have a few options. Are you planning to go back to RHEL5 after going to RHEL6? I ask as RHEL5 requires 'Legacy' boot and without that in the picture, I'd manage boot order differently. I'd download asu to the management node (if not already done). http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=TOOL-ASU You can use that to change things remotely: /opt/ibm/toolscenter/asu/asu64 set uEFI.RemoteConsoleRedirection Enable --host <immip> --user <username> --password <password> /opt/ibm/toolscenter/asu/asu64 set uEFI.Com1ActiveAfterBoot Enable --host <immip> --user <username> --password <password> This should bring back rcons. In terms of installing, what version of xcat is it? What is noderes.netboot set for the node in question? We are moving from an xcat stateless RH5 OS to a RH6 statefull image for our ibm dx360 blades, we’ve re-imaged 4 nodes so far all with same kick start file, source repo, HW and firmware versions without issue, they boot up fine. Now on the 5th server for some reason we have issues, we initiate the install from the xcat server and via rcons can see it display everything normal as per the install, including the disk (sda) formatting, RH package install, and even runs the post scripts, then when it auto-reboots it’s never able to boot off its internal disk, and just loops through the rest of the boot options failing, ie attempts pxe boot, and so on. We’ve tried setting legacy only as first boot option, as well as removing the uefi boot partition from the kick start file with no success (suggested by redhat), it just doesn’t seem to either detect or want to boot off the RH6 boot partition. The 2nd issue; in attempting to troubleshoot the above issue, RH recommended resetting the bios, which also didn’t help. After doing so though, the rcons via the xcat server now does not show any of the hardware F1 /bios/diag options as it powers up. Meaning after a reboot we see it unmounts the file systems on the console, but nothing else past that , or as it boots up like we use to. The big issue is we can no longer get into diag unless someone is onsite with a crash cart. Does anyone know of any settings within the bios/uefi set up that allows that hardware info to be passed through to the rcons with the xcat server? Thanks in advance for any ideas. xcatconfig -v Version 2.6.11 UEFI TME152C 11/23/2012 (version 1.1.9 according to CE) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Own the Future-Intel® Level Up Game Demo Contest 2013 Rise to greatness in Intel's independent game demo contest.
