Thanks! I'm looking into the possibility of just using squashfs as a work around for this issue. What's even stranger is on a different CentOS 5/xCAT 2.6 cluster using NFS storage on a NetApp, I'm not seeing this problem. I am on CentOS 6/xCAT 2.7 on Isilon.

NFS mount options appear to be identical between the two.

Wondering if the CPIO version may have something to do with it.
