There are two different processes for syncing files. During boot the synfiles postscript is run. updatenode -F does not run the syncfiles postscript. It run xdsh -F. If you run updatenode <computenode> -V -F you can see the processing. updatenode does not required you to have sync'd the files to the service node before you try and sync them to the compute node, xdsh -F does that for you. When using the synfiles postscript when the node installs or boots, you are required to first sync the files to the service node ( or have them in a mounted directory). The booting when running the syncfiles postscript will only contact the service node to get the files. Maybe this is your problem. The other usual problem is where the *.synclist file is located for the node. Maybe give us a lsdef of the node and then the full path and name of the synclist file you do not think is working. If you are not using provmethod=<osimagename>, then there is a very specific search critera to find the synclist file. It is documented here. https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/xcat/index.php?title=Sync-ing_Config_Files_to_Nodes Check section 2.3

If you install the compute node from just the management node, as opposed to using a service node, does syncfiles work properly? On 7/12/2013 6:12 PM, Brown, David M JR wrote: Hi all, So I’m having issues doing a syncfiles from a compute node just after it installs just after a fresh install of the service node. To let me lay out what I’ve tested. Syncfiles doesn’t happen during postscripts on a compute node after a freshly installed SN node. Syncfiles does work manually after the compute node is booted after a freshly installed SN node (updatenode -F). After running updatenode -F to the compute node reinstalling that same compute node works. Until running updatenode -F no compute node will be able to run syncfiles. I have the service node postscript in both the postscripts and postbootscripts, I’m running xCAT 2.7.5. Suggestions on how to debug the issue are welcome. I know the process of syncfiles from a compute node attached to a service node from the postscripts has a lot of steps.
