Well, when it works fine, no need to bother. In this case, I can't find anywhere in code that an 'ifcfg-eth*.xcat should be created. I tried to look back a bit and didn't see a potential cause. Is there any chance that there is a custom cron job or custom postscript with updatenode running?

At long intervals, we are finding that the ifcfg-eth* are being overwritten, causing us to go in and add IPADDR and NETMASK lines to ifcfg-eth* files that no longer have them, and restart the network service. At the same time, for example, ifcfg-eth*.xcat files are created. I suspect that dhcp is doing this, but would like to confirm before I try to remediate.
