Is this the xCAT that is built into z/VM 6.3? If so it uses IUCV to talk to
SMAPI.

One thing you could try is to make sure SMAPI is running correctly.
On the zVM download page there is a package called Q_SMAPI where you can try
running the QAPILV_I EXEC and the QDMLVM_I EXEC from maint.

Hi Chuck,

First, thanks for your help.

We use xCAT release 2.8.3 and z/VM 6.3 with a service level of 1302.
In VSMWORK1 AUTHLIST, we have our zHCP user with “ALL” keyword.

This sounds like xCAT does not have authorization to the z/VM SMAPI servers.
xCAT is going to issue a Image_Volume_Space_Define_DM SMAPI call.

What release of z/VM and xCAT are you running?

In the SFS directory: VMSYS:VSMWORK1.
There is a file called VSMWORK1 AUTHLIST

Is the z/VM userid of your xCAT zhcp listed in there? If not, duplicate the
line for MAINT and change it to ZHCP. Be careful to keep the "ALL" keywords in
the same columns as the others.

Hi All,

First post from a newbie with xCAT …
We have installed xCat on a System Z.
I want to provision a node, but when I try to add a disk, there is no POOL
available.

How can I add a disk to a pool ?

I tried the following from comman-line: chhypervisor xcatvm --adddisk2pool 5
XCTB5B POOL1
But received this error:
Error: xcatvm: Defining space on DASD volume to be allocated by directory
manager... Failed
xcatvm: Return Code: -108
xcatvm: Description: Socket processing error

Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
