The cluster is not hierarchical, if I understand your question.

Two management nodes, running RHEL 6.3, with DRBD and Corosync/Pacmaker. DRBD does block sync between the two nodes to keep the appropriate file systems in sync. DRBD creates links to all the files that have to be kept in sync.

So MGT1 is the primary cluster management node, with the secondary MGT2 waiting for MGT1 to fail in some way. When this happens DRBD activates the secondary file links and is supposed to take over.

When I did the original upgrade to 2.7.8 some of the files in the RPM's are part of the DRBD files so are not available on MGT2 until it becomes the primary server. It's been awhile but the error was unable to access files for update or something similar. MGT1 updated fine as it was the primary node. MGT2 was the one that had the issues as it was the secondary.

Thanks for the page link, I hadn't seen the update HA page.

It answered my question in that with DRBD you update the master node then shut it down, then do the secondary node once it becomes the primary.

thanks
jeff

So could you describe you HA environment a little more fully and your cluster. Is it hierarchical? What exactly were the errors on the upgrade . Did they follow one of these HA environments? For example are you using Shared Disk between the Management nodes.

Subject: [xcat-user] Upgrading an HA xCAT configuration

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have xCAT installed on our Idataplex cluster in an HA configuration.
The HA installation was done by IBM and has had it's issues constant
loss of xCAT data after a reboot.. Current version of xCAT is 2.7.8.

When I upgraded from 2.7.6 to 2.7.8 I received errors on the secondary
node, indicating that certain files couldn't be upgraded.

Now I would like to upgrade to 2.8.x (latest) in order to take advantage
of new features, bug fixes and support for the NX chassis.

So the question is how to properly do the update to 2.8.x and make sure
it upgraded properly in the HA environment?

Any help is appreciated.

jeff
