It is probably best to stay at the 2.8.3 level you have then.
Enhancements will be coming with the imbedded xCAT first .

We are running z/VM 6.3. We are not using the embedded version of xCAT at
this time as we already have a xCAT 2.8.3 implementation already in place
running on SLES 11 SP3. Still looking for NPIV support for this product.

The xCAT shipped and supported with z/VM 6.3 is based on 2.8.3

It has updates to the code to support changes in GUI, and for the IBM
Cloud Manager. http://www.vm.ibm.com/sysman/osmntlvl.html

What level of z/VM are you running?

I got around the CBC one by doing an rpm install of
perl-Crypt-CBC-2.29-3.el6.noarch.rpm which was in the ./rh6 directory. I
would guess that this would probably resolve the dependency but not
necessarily do whatever CBC is supposed to do. I erased the rpm install
just to show what it looked like originally.

Yes I see that rpm is missing in the s390x path. We will need to fix the
deps or the checks. This will take a couple of days and a rebuild of the
deps. Unfortunately this is not a noarch rpm.

It looks like you are updating to 2.8.6 not 2.8.5 which is still in
development and not released.

Make sure you get the tarball from the "Latest Release (Stable) xCAT
on https://sourceforge.net/p/xcat/wiki/Download_xCAT/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xcat/files/xcat/2.8.x_Linux/xcat-core-2.8.5.tar.bz2/download

You also will need to install the latest xcat deps package for that
release. Get it from

https://sourceforge.net/projects/xcat/files/xcat-dep/2.x_Linux/

Having issues upgrading xCAT from 2.8.3 to 2.8.5 on a RHEL 6.4 s390x
system. It is looking for a couple of perl Crypt packages. I found the
noarch version in the xcat-dep/rh6 folder to resolve one of the
dependencies (CBC) but still cannot resolve the Rijndael one.
