The new nicextraparams support will GA with xCAT 2.9.1 due out in a couple
of weeks. You can download the latest xCAT 2.9.1 snapshot build from our
xCAT download wiki page:
http://sourceforge.net/p/xcat/wiki/Download_xCAT/
under the section entitled "Latest Snapshot Build".
xCAT convention is that the last GA is listed under "Latest Released
(Stable) xCAT". In this case, xCAT 2.9. If you have this installed, you
can do
lsxcatd -a
which will include the git commit number that was used to build the rpms
you are running. You can then use that with git commands to view that
version of the xCAT code. We only keep one branch for each version stream
(2.8.x, 2.9.x, etc.), so after 2.9 was released, we started adding in code
into the 2.9 branch for 2.9.1. However, for every stable release, we
create a git "tag" to mark that GA version in git (again, you can access
this through git commands).
The "Development Builds" section of the download page contains the next
major version of xCAT, in this case our new development for xCAT 2.10,
which is a separate git branch.

Subject: [xcat-user] nicextraparams field in the nics table
Hello,
While trying to figure out how to configure jumbo frames(9000 byte MTU)
on our ethernet nics, I discovered the recent support for this in the
latest version of the confignics/configeth/configib using a new
nicextraparams field in the nics table. While this functionality exists
in git, it appears that this functionality has not yet made it into a
release(or at least it's not in the 2.9 RHEL7 yum repository packages.)
Is this functionality slated for a particular release? If so, does xCAT
have a regular releas schedule, or is it more of an it'll be ready when
it's ready sort of thing?
Also, I'm a little confused. I can see the nicextraparams support in the
2.9 branch in git but it doesn't appear to be in the 2.9 release builds.
Is the 2.9 git branch then just an development branch for all 2.9
releases? Is there any way to check out of git the files that would
correspond to a given official release?
finally, does anyone have a workaround to configure jumbo frames or
other options on non-management network interfaces with existing
releases of xCAT? I imagine I could write a niccustomscripts script to
do this, but that seems like a bit of a waste of time if this will be a
feature in a soon to be released version of xCAT.
