Thanks for pointing that out. From what I gather (also from the
concerned script), this will append to the file each time xdcp /
updatenode -F is run? Or is there a check on a higher level for already
appended files? I guess the passage starting with “To update the
original file when using the function, you need to …” is dealing with
this issue in its own way.

Well, APPEND does seem to offer a simple solution, just having some
untidy growth of authorized_keys over time if not taking extra steps.
Another variant would be a postscript adding that single public key
once. Somehow MERGE looks like it could fit the bill better, but the
documentation makes it rather clear that this is for passwd stuff only.
