Hi folks, As noted here, https://github.com/ipmitool/ipmitool/issues/18 Dell's 14G servers arent playing nicely with IPMI tool. However it only really affects some of the advanced settings using the such as configuring shared bmc network interfaces, as performed during bmcsetup eg "ipmitool delloem lan set shared with lom3"
As noted in the issue, there is a copy of ipmi tool that works on the Dell Systems Management Tools and Documentation DVD ISO, v.9.1.0 <https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=NP4JN> you can find the RPMs in OM_SMTD_910_A00.iso\SYSMGMT\ManagementStation\linux\bmc\ipmitool\ Dropping the version of ipmitool on top of /opt/xcat/share/xcat/netboot/genesis/x86_64/fs/usr/bin/ipmitool and running mknb was all I needed to do to get bmcsetup working for me.
