hi langton nkiwane,
it is not recommended to keep the "ethX" naming, since the NIC name like "ethX" is not consistent across system reboot, even not consistent in "initrd" phase and the installed system. This means you cannot predict which NIC is "ethX" when you specify it, so it make no sense to specify NIC like "ethX"

Subject: [xcat-user] Fwd: Network interface naming
Date: Tue, Nov 6, 2018 6:25 PM
I went through google and got something like this
chdef -t osimage -o centos-7.3-x86_64-install-compute -p addkcmdline="R::biosdevname=0" "R::net.ifnames=0"
It appends the kernel parameters and enables the common naming of interfaces as eth#. I tried to reboot the clients but its stuck on initrd. I did a geninitrd command but still its stuck.

Greetings - I know many sites do things differently but we set interfaces
manually in noderes (we use xcat with over 30 vendor hardware configurations)
Here's a snippet (below) of a few machines - see entries for installnic and
primarynic.
Hope this helps.
