Youssef,

I don't have any experience using xCAT with i386 nodes, perhaps other
members of the list can chime in if they have tried something similar.

What operating system are you intending to use for the diskless image?

Are the nodes capable of network boot via PXE?

Is your idea to boot into a simple diskless image so you can mount the
local disks to copy the data off?

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [xcat-user] Diskless legacy i386 nodes

I've just started using xCAT. A large part of one cluster I work with
consists of legacy i386 nodes that I would like to boot in diskless mode to
migrate data to newer machines. I see that the xCAT support matrix does not
mention i386, so would it be advisable to look for a solution that does not
involve xCAT, or could it somehow still be possible to handle diskless i386
with xCAT?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.
