The pithy ruminations from Christian Caruthers on
[[External] [xcat-user] makehosts not creating aliases Possibly Bug 6828?] were:
=> Running 2.16.0.lenovo1 on stock CentOS 8.2.

I'm running 2.16.0.lenovo1 on stock CentOS 7.8, and I'm seeing very similar
behavior to what Christian described.

=>
=> I have the following setup:
=>
=> nodels login hosts.hostnames midway3-login1: login1,l1 midway3-login2:
=> login2,l2
=>
=> When I run makehosts login (w/ or w/o "-l"), these are not created:

Same here:

###########################################################
        [root@mgmt1 ~]# lsdef head1|grep hostnames
            hostnames=J12345,head1
                # The node definition has the alias
        [root@mgmt1 ~]#
        [root@mgmt1 ~]# nodels head1 hosts.hostnames
        head1: J12345,head1
                # The hosts table has the alias
        [root@mgmt1 ~]#
        [root@mgmt1 ~]# nodels head1 nics.nicaliases
        head1: J12345,head1
                # The nics table has an alias -- the behavior is the same if
this is present or not
        [root@mgmt1 ~]#
        [root@mgmt1 ~]# grep head1 /etc/hosts
        10.20.10.1 head1 head1.mydomain.local
                # there is no alias in /etc/hosts
        [root@mgmt1 ~]#
        [root@mgmt1 ~]# makehosts
                # makehosts runs without error
        [root@mgmt1 ~]#
        [root@mgmt1 ~]# grep head1 /etc/hosts
        10.20.10.1 head1 head1.mydomain.local
                # there is still no alias
        [root@mgmt1 ~]#
        [root@mgmt1 ~]#
        [root@mgmt1 ~]# lsxcatd -v
        Version 2.16.1.lenovo1 (git commit
06d7097f42eca03db70c9eb93b8abeaf8ca1c2be, built Mon Jan 25 14:50:48 UTC 2021)
        [root@mgmt1 ~]#

=>
=> It appears to be related to bug 6828. Was there a workaround beyond
=> duplicating efforts and defining the interface in the nics table?
=>

In my case, adding an alias to the nics table doesn't seem to help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mark
