Thanks! This is CentOS 7 for both the mgmt node and compute nodes, and yes this is for an older version.
I saw those docs as well and there is no difference I am seeing in the commands other than also adding nicaliases which I do not need to do as I am not hosting DNS on the mgmt node. Having a network interface with a second IP in the same network/subnet is a supported configuration, at least on Linux :-). It works fine manually adding it on the node.
