Errata : of course, depending of the moment nodeset is issued, kernel+initrd could be older than root

Hello, thanks for your answer.

In my experience, this potential critical section is rarely a problem.

In mine too.

In practice, having a (kernel + initrd) / rootimg.tar.gz match does not usually cause problems,
but there is the possibility of an issue arising.

Well, assuming kernel is always upgraded and never downgraded (though it may exceptionally not be the case), I guess what could happen is kernel + initrd would be newer than root content. I'm not sure what issue this could cause. I'd consider not being able to switch root a non-issue in that case as it would not be worse than booting let's say with no rootimg.tar.gz ready (which is the case if, like me you remove <rootimgdir:> and not just <rootimgdir:>/rootimg before regenerating the osimage. Don't know if other issues may arise.

1.) Usually the process of genimage/packimage/nodeset/reboot is being controlled directly by an administrator, by taking care to not reboot a node while genimage/packimage/nodeset is running, any potential problems are avoided.

Yes, that's what I'm doing right now

2.) Rather than rebuilding a single osimage, you can keep your existing image in place and work on a new image instead. Once you have completed your testing on the new image, update your nodes to the new image by doing nodeset/reboot.

Yes but this means new object with different path in its attribute which should when everything is finished should have their orignial values...

Thanks for your help
