Your osimage definitions and static groups should get migrated when you
complete these steps:
1.14 Backup the xCAT database tables for the current configuration
and
2.7 To restore the xCAT database

The files that your osimage definitions reference should get migrated when you
complete these steps:
1.1 Backup xCAT important files and directories
and
2.3 Overwrite files/directories mentioned in above 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 from backup
server to new xCAT management server

Doing a migration like this is more labor intensive than installing a new
management node, importing your existing
object definitions, re-running copycds for the osimages you need, then
reinstalling your compute nodes.

However, if you have a need to migrate your management node while leaving your
compute nodes as-is, this process is necessary.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [xcat-user] question on management node migration

Hello,
I am working to do a management node migration, and I have a question.

I am following this link ,
https://xcat-docs.readthedocs.io/en/stable/advanced/migration/migration.html
, and I see everything that needs to be done here, but I don't see any
mentions about when / how to restore the OS images and static groups
that I have.

Should I run copycds to install all the OS images and create the
static groups manually after installing xcat rpms to the new node and
then restore all the files ( as mentioned in steps 1.1 through 1.11?)
? Or should I do something else?

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
