I have just tested and committed to CVS a fix for this in xcircuit
version 3.6;  the tarball will be available tomorrow.

I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting here.  Doing "clear page"
from the menu will reset an existing page, and loading a new file
should reuse it;  pages with anything on them are skipped when loading
a file.  If you're suggesting an alternative way to make your startup
procedure work, then I assume it's unnecessary, as the change I just
committed should take care of that.
