I was doing this in xcircuit v3.6 as I was writing what I was doing
into the email.
If there are simple fixes to the crash conditions, please let me know
what they are. I did not further investigate the one crash that I
managed to precipitate by somehow parameterizinig the position of an
entire polygon.
I'm not sure why you're not able to move something with a parameterized
position. Which version of xcircuit are you using? I'm doubtful that
there are very many people who have used the element parameters, so I'm
sure I've had less feedback about its behavior from system to system
than other features.
