Hi,
I just tested the new 3.9.1 version and the only comment I can make
is... awesome. I am pretty excited (and grateful) for this nice jump
forward in xcircuit. Thank to all of you!
I would like to point to a problem I have (since ever) with
xcircuit --- It is very difficult to use it in non-US locales. It is a
minor problem, given that most of my drawings are in english anyway, but
sometime I have to prepare things in different languages and it is quite
noticeable.
Suppose for example you have to type a sentence with ñ. Out of the
box it does not work; if I type a ñ (AltGr-n on my US intl keyboard) it
gives me an æ. It works if you set the encoding on Iso-latin1. Now you
can type it; but if you need to change fonts mid string it got resetted:
type (Alt-Gr n) (Alt-F)(ALt-F)(Alt f) W (Alt-F) (Alt-Gr n) trying to
have a "ñΩñ" you ends up with a "ñΩæ"...
A similar thing occurs with the file selector --- the file names
with non-ascii symbols are mangled (they are stored as UFT-8 in all
modern Linux filesystems). See http://imgur.com/Z2dgN0j
I imagine that switching to a proper locale management has to be
really complex, but I just wanted to point this out. Almost all systems
(at least, Unix based one) are now on UTF-8 for encoding of text. Is
there at least a way to "fix" encoding to ISO-latin1? It would be not a
general solution but at least for western Europe it would suffice.
All in all, thanks again for the leap forward.
Romano
