Hello Erik,

   Bingo!  I should have just run this simple test first before
sending off the last email.  But just run "glxgears" at the same
time as xcircuit, and unless the window manager is involved
somehow, you'll see the effect I was talking about.  Well, I guess
there could also be video hardware limitations involved.  I'd like
to know what happens for other people when they try this.

   Anyway, it doesn't have to do with memory leaks and it doesn't
have to do with overlapping windows.  It is apparently an issue of
cairo wanting resources from the video card and either being denied
them and running software emulation, or being put on low priority.
