The file proxy you’re looking for is the part of the jump bar that shows the name of the file. Command- or right-click on it to get the file system hierarchy. The file segment also serves as a draggable proxy, just like the icon in the standard title bar. (No modifier key, and start your drag quickly, before the jump bar puts up its project-group menu.) Sermon for Alex, who doesn’t really need one, but I’m a narcissist: Yeah, Developer Tools has been ruthless in paring vertical overhead; it was the biggest downside to adopting the browser model. They sacrificed the proxy icon for all cases, while preserving the feature. (I’m no more pleased with Xcode’s discoverability problems than you are.) The alternatives were: • Have Xcode judge for itself when to change the UI model for its windows when you move a window between screens. Almost nobody’s sole display is a 5K Retina; she has a second, smaller one, often on the MacBook Air she uses to take work home. • Add Yet Another Option for the user to set that policy. Think of all the variants. Newbies will not discover them; they will come here and ask, “Where did my title bar go?/Why is it suddenly wasting space?
