I think a great deal depends on what kind of development you're doing. As a hobbyist / “indie” / one-man-shop / "got-a-Mac-in-my-bedroom" kind of developer, I got by for most of the last two years with a 2009 MBP with 8GB of Ram, and a homemade fusion drive for writing small mac and iOS apps.
I recently bought an iMac 5K (excuse to the wife: we’re making money from this small mac, think how much more we’d make with a BIG MAC!!…Don’t laugh, it worked!), but that was pure indulgence (and a bit of a distraction as I’m forever watching movies on that massive screen when I should be staring at code). _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
