I’m with ‘**’ at the bottom as regards the GUI showing what the App Store is doing. it appears to me that the actual download and install daemons are entirely different processes and the GUI tries to read what’s going on from them and stay up-to-date, and it just doesn’t do it very well. I continue to recommend not updating Xcode from the app store but just downloading it directly from the link (under other downloads) and installing from there. It’s fast and you can tell what’s going on.
