Ah. In that case, you never submit that version if you don’t want to re-use the
version number; or if you did submit it, put in a developer rejection.
My further guess is that Apple can’t know that you’ve abandoned a version, so
it shouldn’t destroy its metadata. My _guess_ on why you can’t strike it from
the list yourself is that it’s one more feature for Apple to get right in an
already fiendishly-complex web app, and (post-hoc rationalization) keeping the
record is cheap, and obviates the need to support developers who want to undo
the deletion.
