I can’t remember when I gave up on Xcode docs now, (Xcode 6, I guess), and I
also noticed that

i. the PDF download symbol went AWOL sometime ago on the developer site docs,
and

ii. the Javascript on those pages is often messed up so that I can’t scroll the
doc in Safari (it keeps returning to the top).

Answer for me was to get Dash[1]. Great tool, but pretty lame that it’s needed
in the first place.

Best

How "useful" is a library of PDF docs? They're outdated the moment they're

Useful enough to know where they are on my hard drive, which is easier and more
useful than wading through Apple's online mess.

(On the other hand, I wish I could get Xcode's documentation system to work *at
all* when I'm not connected to the internet. It never has.)

That's my point.  If I can't get to the net for some reason, I want to know I
have the docs on my local box and docs I can EASILY SEARCH.

Hell, the frameworks docs I ended up using were not even for iOS and were
articles written 4 years ago by someone who isn't employed at Apple (and help
here), because I couldn't find useful guides on Apple's developer site.

I was searching for frameworks docs on the dev site and the dev videos part and
it's horrible.

1. You get loads more content than fits your search query.
2. Scrolling returns data concurrently, so the found set you see isn't the
entire found set.  There's no scroll thumb to indicate the range you have
scrolled to within the found set or how far you have left to go.

You end up wasting time because of too many results that don't apply to your criteria and
then you can't see how far you are through the found set, so, after enough wasted time,
it's just a case of, "I give up and will search somewhere more useful than
here".

Apple's UI engineers seem to forget that the user interfaces are meant to
convey context and valuable data to the users to help them accomplish their
desired tasks.

UI Usability has taken a serious nose dive over the past few years.  It's
disappointing.

They're moving to a more online or iBooks approach. They've taken down lots of

I did bug report it but they closed it and said PDF is an unsupported format
for that document.

It's a big shame.

Did Apple start removing all the PDF files for its documentation for developers?

It's rather maddening not being able to have a library of useful docs and
having to resort to searching the dev site all the time for things.

+1

Please tell me that Apple is not removing all of its PDF files for developer
documentation.
