I’m running Xcode 7.3 on OS X 10.11.4 on a retina iMac circa 2014.

Recently I’ve noticed some rather serious performance issues with the
kernel_task and the SourceKitService processes.

After a few minutes of running Xcode the SourceKitService jumps from using
about 19 Megs of memory to over 40 GIGABYTES of memory. The memory makes that
dramatic climb over just a few seconds.

As this happens the kernel_task starts consuming more and more of the CPU
cycles. I have to quit Xcode regularly to keep the system running smoothly.

One side effect of this seems to be Xcode forgetting its recent projects. If I
reboot I do get my recent projects menu back. Don’t know if this is a useful
symptom or not.

I’ve been using Xcode for many years and unlike some here, have been extremely
happy with it. Maybe because nothing like this has happened before. Can anyone
shed any light on what might be going on? At this point I have to start Xcode,
work fast, quit it, start it, work fast, etc, etc. Not a happy situation.

Thanks for any insight.
