Don’t use Xcode for Git operations other than diff or blame. Just don’t. It’s a very bad Git client. Much of that is because it’s trying to support both Git and SVN and hide the profound differences between them.
Just get a real Git client like SourceTree (free!) or Tower or whatever, and run it alongside Xcode.
